PrestaShop Product Recommendation Module: Active From Day Zero

A product recommendation module shouldn't sit empty during a store's first few weeks, or during a new product's first weeks or months in the catalog.
Traditional solutions that rely mainly on clicks and purchases need a history before they can rank products correctly. RecoKit offers a different entry point for a PrestaShop product recommendation module: start with the information already present in the catalog, supplier data, and the encyclopedic knowledge of LLMs, then enrich results with sales signals as they become available.
A PrestaShop Module, No Theme Changes Required
The RecoKit module installs from the PrestaShop back office, like any product recommendation module available on PrestaShop Addons. After installation, it automatically creates or links the store's account with the RecoKit API and stores the necessary credentials. If this automatic connection fails, the configuration page allows manual entry.
The module relies on official PrestaShop hooks to integrate with the store. It doesn't require any theme file changes and doesn't alter PrestaShop's native tables.

How the Integration Works
Catalog Sync
After a successful connection, an initial sync sends active products to RecoKit: name, description, price, stock, categories, and available images. Hooks for creation, updates, deletion, and stock changes then transmit ongoing changes.
This sync and the recommendation calculations run asynchronously. Sales-based associations can appear after a few minutes. AI processing can take longer depending on catalog size. The Sync product catalog button lets you re-trigger processing after an interruption, a mismatch, or a bulk change.
Recommendation and Cross-Sell Widget
The module loads the product recommendation widget's resources and provides placement slots on the product page, the cart and, depending on configuration, the mini-cart or the add-to-cart popup — the classic placements for PrestaShop cross-sell and upsell. Recommendations are prepared server-side; the browser only receives the results needed for display, which means no slowdown at load time.
Recommendations are computed in micro-batches, and results are stored in the database so they can be served quickly to the storefront.
Depending on configuration and plan, zones can distinguish between similar products, complementary products, bundles, and intent-based recommendations.
Merchant Control
RecoKit provides a dashboard for reviewing and adjusting recommendations before they go live. The PrestaShop module itself stays lightweight: it sends catalog data and displays the results prepared by the service.
Why Start With the Catalog?
A new store, a new collection, or a recently added product doesn't yet have behavioral data. Product information (text, attributes, category, and image where available) already provides a usable signal for finding similar and complementary products.
Sales data can then refine the results. RecoKit therefore combines a semantic baseline that's useful from day one with behavioral signals as they become available. Missing or ambiguous attributes in product sheets necessarily limit ranking quality — which is why RecoKit also flags missing attributes likely to affect recommendation relevance.
How RecoKit Differs From Other PrestaShop Modules
Most recommendation modules available on PrestaShop Addons work through manual cross-sell (product-by-product associations) or "best-selling / most-viewed" logic, both of which assume existing traffic and sales. RecoKit takes a different approach on two points:
- No manual associations to configure: ranking starts from the catalog's semantic baseline, not from hand-entered rules.
- No need to wait for sales volume: recommendations are active from the initial sync, then progressively refined by behavioral signals.
Quick Installation
- Download the ZIP archive from the RecoKit PrestaShop page.
- In PrestaShop, open Modules and Services → Install a module.
- Select the ZIP without unzipping it.
- Open the module's configuration. Account creation or linking happens automatically.
- Let the initial sync and processing run, then check the recommendation placements.

Do I need to create an account on recokit.fr?
No. The module automatically tries to create or link the store's account. A password-setup email may be requested from its configuration page if portal access is needed.
Do recommendations appear immediately?
No. Sync and calculations run asynchronously. Sales-based associations usually take a few minutes; AI processing can take longer depending on the catalog.
What if the catalog is incomplete?
Check the alert shown in the module's configuration, verify HTTPS access to the RecoKit API, then use the manual sync button to re-trigger processing.
Is the module compatible with my theme?
It relies on PrestaShop hooks and doesn't require manual theme changes. A heavily customized theme may need a visual placement check.
What happens on uninstall?
Uninstalling doesn't automatically disconnect the store. Disconnecting and removing credentials is done separately from the module's configuration.
